ATEX certified AVISO gas detector

Quant has developed the complete electronics and circuit board for the AVISO gas detector, a portable safety device designed to protect workers in potentially hazardous industrial environments.

The AVISO is used in sectors where reliable gas detection is essential, such as the oil and gas industry, refineries, offshore installations and mining. The device detects various gases and can immediately send an alarm when dangerous situations are detected.

Developed according to ATEX and IECEx regulations

The AVISO electronics have been developed in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60079-11 'ia', the international standard for intrinsically safe equipment. This standard sets strict limits on energy, temperature and possible ignition sources in electronic systems.

Thanks to this design philosophy, the AVISO can be used in ATEX/IECEx Zone 0, an environment where an explosive atmosphere can continuously be present.

When designing the electronics, this means, among other things, that:

  • Energy in circuits must be strictly limited
  • Fault conditions must continue to function safely
  • Component selection and PCB layout are carefully controlled
  • The entire system meets strict certification requirements

These requirements have a direct impact on both the electronics design and the circuit board layout.

Full development of electronics

Quant was responsible for the complete electronics design, including the PCB design that is at the heart of the device.

The system integrates, among other things:

  • Multiple gas sensor interfaces
  • Motion sensors for fall and man-down detection
  • GPS location technology
  • Wireless communication via LTE and optional satellite network

This allows the device not only to detect dangerous gases, but also to automatically sound the alarm when an employee gets into an emergency.

Real-time monitoring and connectivity

The AVISO sends alarm messages and sensor data directly to a central monitoring environment. Via a mobile application or alarm center, it can be monitored in real time where employees are and whether an incident occurs.

Thanks to support for 4G LTE and optional satellite connectivity the system can also be deployed in remote locations where regular networks are not available.

From concept to certified product

This project shows how Quant can support customers in developing complex electronics for critical applications. Through expertise in electronics development, PCB design and certification processes By combining, a product can be developed that meets both functional requirements and international safety standards.

With the AVISO, this technology contributes to a safer working environment for people who work daily in risky industrial environments.
